Raising Supaman
by Nathaniel A. Turner, J.D.
ONE FATHER’S MANUAL FOR RAISING GREAT CHILDREN
Great children do not happen by accident. While reflecting on the broken relationship with his own father, author Nathaniel A. Turner decided that he was going to make a plan for raising his son. Part of that plan was to write letters to his son.
“I wanted to make sure that my son had a record of how much I loved him and how much he meant to me should I not live long enough to see him reach his full potential as a man,” says Turner. “I also wanted to leave my son with a written record of the lessons that I tried to teach him that he could take with him wherever he went.”
Those letters to his son were deeply personal and never intended to be published, but Turner wanted to ignite a movement to raise expectations and standards for parents. He decided the best way to help other parents was to publish the letters to his son in the new book, Raising Supaman. In the book, readers will find an inspiring, goal-oriented manual for how to raise great children. These letters are important because, as Turner argues, “the volume of a parent’s voice and behavior often drowns out the intended aim of the communication. Children too often focus on the way the message is delivered rather than the goal of the message.”
“Raising Supaman prompts parents to put in written words the hopes, dreams and the deep affection that they have for their children. I believe there few gifts parents could give a child which are more valuable than the gift of a love letter,” adds Turner.
In addition, parents will find answers to the following questions in Raising Supaman:
- What prompted the letters?
- How do children respond to the letters?
- What can you learn about yourself when writing letters?
- How does parenting style evolve as children grow?
- Can you continue to share lessons once children mature?
